WOMEN'S XCELL
What Is Xcel?
Xcel is a great place to start competitive gymnastics. The Xcel program requires a lower level of commitment by the gymnast and her family. The athlete trains fewer hours per week than the Developmental Program, and attend fewer competition during the season. This means the financial commitment is less on the family and provides gymnasts of varying abilities the opportunity to experience top
competitive gymnastics, while having the freedom to commit to other sports and
after school activities. We offer 5 levels of Xcel.
Levels
Bronze: This is a beginner division. Gymnasts perform routines with various skill modifications, which are designed to develop required skills and technique. Meets include invitationals and State Championships.
Silver: This is a beginner-intermediate division. Every gymnast performs routines with various skill modifications, which are designed to develop required skills and technique. Meets include invitationals and State Championships.
Gold: This is an intermediate division. Routines must include certain compulsory elements. Meets include invitationals and State Championships.
Platinum: This is an advanced intermediate optional division. special requirements for each event. Meets include invitationals and State Championships.
Diamond: This is the advanced optional division. There are special requirements for each event. Meets include invitationals and State Championships.
WOMEN'S DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
What Is Women's DP?
This program has three distinct levels: Developmental, Compulsories and Optionals.
This program was created with the belief that all athletes must have a solid foundation of basic skills in order to advance safely. The program allows the gymnast to advance at her own pace, allowing an athlete to compete in more than one level in a year or to repeat levels as needed.
Levels
Developmental-
Level 2: This is the introductory level for gymnasts to begin their competitive gymnastics experience. We compare our rockets to a level 1 gymnast. Level 2 is where most of our rockets transition in to when beginning their competitive journey.
Level 3: This is the introductory level for gymnastics to begin their competitive journey. This level is the maximum level required to score out of to compete in compulsories. A required score must be obtained before competing the next level.
Compulsories- This level is for young athletes just starting the competitive program. Compulsories develop all of the fundamental skills needed to build on in competitive gymnastics. Gymnasts compete routines created by USAG at competitions in California (even here at AKSC), and possibly neighboring states
Levels 4&5: Within the guidelines of each level gymnasts perform Intermediate level skills and routines that are progressively harder. These levels of gymnastics are designed to reward great technique and exactness. They will challenge an athlete.
Optional Levels- The word optionals means that a gymnast now has options in choosing, within the guidelines of each level, what skills and routines they will perform. This gives gymnasts the opportunity to be more creative and expressive. This is the type of gymnastics you see at the world championships or Olympics.
Levels 6-10: Like compulsories each of these levels requires a harder set of skills from the level below it. These gymnasts will compete at larger meets and may require air travel to a meet. As they progress in levels they can reach higher championships, even the nationals!
MEN'S DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
What Is Men's DP?
The Development Program is organized into ten different levels of training or competition. Each level has multiple age groups and opportunities for participation and competition.
Levels
Level 3: This is the introductory level for gymnasts to begin their competitive gymnastics experience.
Levels 4-6: Competition is offered in Division 1 (Developmental Division) and Division 2 (Junior Developmental Division)
Division 1 provides basic compulsory routines and includes in the routines the opportunity for the talented gymnast to challenge his development and mastery at each level with additional developmental skills (Specified Bonus) that are rewarded with bonus. Division 2 provides basic compulsory routines that are constructed to encourage participation, promote growth, and provide opportunity for the recreational gymnast to be successful and continue to progress. The basic routines are designed so that they are achievable for the average recreational participant.
Levels 7 thru 10: Like compulsories each of these levels requires a harder set of skills from the level below it. These gymnasts will compete at larger meets and may even travel by air to a meet. As they progress thru the levels they can reach higher championships…. even Nationals.
