    • NO absences are permitted from recreational or competition team classes unless they are pre-approved by our director, (Jennifer Skiby Plunkett) and are school related, injury, or due to illness.
    • Any student with an un-communicated absence from a dance team class or rehearsal will risk being prohibited from participating in an upcoming competition.

Dance Disciplines

Ballet

Ballet is a classical dance form with its own vocabulary, techniques, and teaching methods. Originating during the 15th century, ballet classes focus on developing good posture, improving balance, developing coordination, building strength, and increasing flexibility. Students learn ballet technique through a progressive series of exercises and steps while learning self-discipline, grace, and proper dance class etiquette.

Ballet classes begin with exercises at the ballet barre, follow with combinations in the center of the room, and finish with movements across the floor. A variety of steps, positions, and positions are learned, each emphasizing a variety of essential ballet skills. Dancers will work on control, speed, timing, and musicality as more complex movements are taught.

Tap

Tap is a rhythmic style of dance that uses shoes with metal taps attached under the toes and heels to make clear percussive sounds. Tap technique emphasizes coordination and speed of movement while maintaining balance and upper body control.

A tap class will start with exercises at the ballet barre or in the center to warm-up the feet and ankles. The tap instructor may continue with exercises across the floor and conclude with combinations or tap choreography. Tap skills build on one another, so practice and mastery of basic steps (such as shuffles and flaps) prepare the student for more intricate movement combinations and tempo changes.

Jazz

An ever-changing art form, jazz dance can pull a variety of techniques such as modern, ballet, African, Latin, and Caribbean dance styles. The music played in class can vary widely, from pop to instrumental to R&B. Jazz dance encourages personal style, body awareness, and is fun!

A typical jazz dance class will include a warm-up, stretches, progressions across the floor, and choreography. Proper technique and body placement will be emphasized, and a progression of skills should be taught and mastered before moving on to more complex movement patterns.

Jazz dance technique includes many ballet-based movements such as pliés (bending of the knees) and battements (large kicks), so experience in ballet is recommended. Isolations of the body, footwork, jumps, leaps, and turns will be emphasized, and musicality will be an important component in class.

Description Title

This lively and exciting class introduces children to the vibrant world of hip hop dance! Tailored for young movers, the class combines basic hip hop techniques, rhythm exercises, and dynamic choreography, all set to upbeat, kid-friendly music. Students will learn a variety of street dance moves, such as popping, locking, breaking, and freestyle, while focusing on coordination, balance, and musicality.

The class is designed to promote self-expression, teamwork, and creativity, making sure every child feels confident and has fun. Through energetic routines and age-appropriate challenges, kids will improve their physical fitness, coordination, and rhythm, all while dancing to their favorite tunes.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance classes are a form of dance that combines elements of ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance to express the mood and lyrics of a song through movement. Lyrical dance classes often focus on:

Storytelling

Dancers use their bodies, facial expressions, and the music's lyrics to convey a narrative or express emotions.

Fluid movements

Dancers use flowing, sweeping movements, leaps, turns, and extensions to portray the essence of the music.

Grace and musicality

Dancers emphasize grace and fluidity, musicality, and expressiveness to capture emotion through movement.

Ballet technique

Dancers learn ballet technique with the fluidity of jazz

Musical Theatre

Step into the spotlight with our Musical Theatre Dance class! This high-energy class combines the magic of storytelling, expressive movement, and dynamic choreography inspired by Broadway's best. Students will learn techniques that blend jazz, acting, and dance to bring characters and songs to life on stage. For dancers in Foundation 1  and  up, this class builds confidence, stage presence, and a love for theatrical performance. Whether you're dreaming of Broadway or just want to have fun, this class is your ticket to the world of musical theatre!

A group of people dressed in costumes are posing for a picture.
  • How do I know what Level to enroll my child in?

If your child is new to dance, they will begin with an age-appropriate "Intro" class. We follow a structured syllabus for each dance discipline and have specific skill tracks for every level. Once a student has mastered the necessary skills for their level, their teacher will mark the level as "passed."

You can monitor your child’s skill progress by accessing the "Evaluations" section of our app.

  • What does my child wear to dance class?

  • Can parents watch the class?

Yes our facility has top of the line parent viewing areas with 2 ways mirrors in all of the dance rooms! We have benches outside of each room for parents to sit and enjoy their students class along with free wifi!

  • What is your absence or make up policy?

When a class is missed our system will automatically issue you a makeup token. We allow 2 makeup tokens per 1 four week session. When we start learning recital dances, we do not allow makeups as every class learns a differnt dance. You can use your makeup token in a different program.
